Josh Lappin’s experience in the business of education began in the fall of 1996. Josh had recently graduated from Hobart College with a BA in English and a minor in education. For 27 years, he served in various roles including teacher, administrator, coach, advisor, summer program director, and even school bus driver. Josh worked with students in grades 5 through 12, and he taught in coed, all-boys, and all-girls classrooms. He has a master’s degree in education administration from Boston College.
In 2016, Josh stepped away from his summer program job and started a new summer career as the founder and owner of a seasonal tutoring placement company, Summer Blazers Tutoring. It started with a $5,000 deposit on November 10, 2016, from his personal checking account consisting of money made from his salary at an independent school in Brookline, Massachusetts.
After three successful summers, the company also began placing tutors in the fall, winter, and spring. Summer Blazers Tutoring became Josh’s year-round “side hustle.”
Did Josh know back in 2016 that he would someday leave teaching and make tutoring entrepreneurship his full-time career? No, but in time he realized the potential of switching careers. The world did not have a real tutoring company that specialized in providing the expertise of teachers.
In 2023, Josh retired from teaching after 27 (mostly) incredible years. It was time for Summer Blazers Tutoring to evolve.
In January of 2024, Josh renamed the company SuperTutors.com.
Josh misses teaching his students, and he misses his talented colleagues. However, these sentiments are outshined by his excitement for SuperTutors.com.
